Reimagining water supply chain in urban slums: A multi-level marketing approach
Overview
Our team had the opportunity to lead a project for Development Alternatives, where we focused on understanding the safe water needs and innovating the supply chain in urban slums. We aimed to introduce a multi-level marketing model specifically designed for urban slum level entrepreneurs, ensuring access to safe water. We initiated a relationship with Development Alternatives and provided consultancy services to develop a communication strategy for marketing a chlorine water purification solution among slum dwellers. Our study involves gaining a deep understanding of people's attitudes and practices towards drinking water, which will inform our messaging theme. Additionally, we are working on creating a multi-level marketing model to sell the product through slum level entrepreneurs.
Approach
Our team was engaged in developing an innovative commercial marketing model to distribute a chlorine solution across urban slums. We are leveraging principles of multi-level marketing to establish a sustainable supply chain. Our approach includes conducting extensive research to gain insights into the attitudes and practices of our target audience regarding drinking water. This valuable information will shape our messaging strategy to effectively promote the chlorine water purification solution. Simultaneously, we are identifying and training slum level entrepreneurs who will serve as the product's distributors. By utilizing a multi-level marketing approach, we aim to reach and cater to the water needs of slum dwellers effectively.
Results
The implementation of the multi-level marketing model and the distribution of the chlorine water purification solution have yielded remarkable results. We have witnessed a substantial increase in the adoption of the product among slum dwellers, leading to improved water quality and reduced health risks within the targeted communities. The empowerment of slum level entrepreneurs as distributors has effectively enhanced the availability and accessibility of safe drinking water, positively impacting the lives of many. Our careful monitoring and evaluation have confirmed significant improvements in water consumption practices, ensuring sustainable changes in the long run. We are delighted with the results, as they demonstrate the tangible benefits of our efforts in increasing access to safe drinking water and promoting better water consumption practices in urban slums.
